Elite Athlete Programme


The ASB Auckland Marathon is New Zealand’s largest marathon and has an incredible history within New Zealand and the international running community.

The Elite Athlete Programme for the 2016 ASB Auckland Marathon strives to foster New Zealand runners while respecting the importance of the international running community in celebration of event records and high performance.

The Elite Athlete Assistance Programme is available for both the ASB Auckland Marathon and the Barfoot & Thompson Half Marathon.

Applications for Elite runners will be available from Wednesday 30 March 2016. Applications will close on Thursday 1 September 2016.

All applications will go through a review process once entries have closed. Applicants will be notified by Friday 9 September 2016 if they have been successful, and the level of support offered. This can include;

  • Complimentary Entry
  • Elite Priority start
  • Accommodation
  • Travel

For the 2016 event, travel, accommodation and complimentary entries are limited and all approval decisions will be made at the discretion of the Event Organisers.

To be considered, elite applicants must have achieved the Elite Status criteria below in a previous race:-

Top of the Bridge Prime Awards - $500
The Top of the Bridge Prime Awards recognise the first male and first female runners in the full marathon to cross the top of the Auckland Harbour Bridge. This is approximately 15k from the event start line at Devonport.  The top of the Auckland Harbour Bridge is defined as the official timing mats on the bridge for the purposes of the awards and event officials will also be present at this point to adjudicate.  The two winning elite athletes will each receive a cash prize of $500 each. To be eligible for the prize the runners must complete the full marathon distance.

 *All prizes are in NZ dollars and those prizes above $500 are subject to 20% resident withholding tax.

To enter, please complete the 2016 Elite Application Form and submit to registration@aucklandmarathon.co.nz no later than Thursday 1 September 2016

CONDITIONS OF APPLICATION
·        All athletes must have run on a certified course since January 1, 2016.
·        Applications MUST be received by Thursday 1 September 2016.
·        Athletes must have their own identification to enter and exit the country.
·        No letters of invitation or authorization will be forwarded.

NOTE: Applying for the Elite Athletes Program does not guarantee acceptance.  Assistance is limited and will be considered on a case by case basis. This is an application only and does not guarantee acceptance. Once elite applications close on Thursday 1 September 2016 all entries will be reviewed and applicants will be notified by Friday 9 September 2016 if they have been successful.
