With 50 days to go until the Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Marathon, thousands of runners and walkers are clocking up the kilometres in preparation for the event taking place on 30 October 2022.

For the first time in its history, the Auckland Marathon will run twice in one year after the 2021 event was held in January 2022, postponed from its usual date in spring due to COVID restrictions.

With global travel back up and running, the Auckland Marathon is set to welcome athletes from around the world for the first time in almost three years. Participants have entered from more than 30 countries, with Australia, Brazil, France, Great Britain, India, Singapore and the United States among those represented.

Mitch Murcott, Auckland Marathon Race Director, said he was looking forward to welcoming domestic and international runners to the event in October.

“The Auckland Marathon celebrates all that is great about New Zealand’s biggest city, guiding runners through the CBD, along the waterfront, and across the iconic Harbour Bridge. We’re delighted to see so many Aucklanders and participants from across the country embrace this event year on year,” said Murcott.

“Equally as exciting for 2022 is the return of international athletes, who we can’t wait to welcome back to Aotearoa in October. With a festival atmosphere from start to finish, and colour and culture aplenty, this event is a celebration of running at its best that I’m sure everyone will enjoy,” he said.
