Breathe easy with the Nissan Leaf
The adidas Auckland Marathon is thrilled to welcome Nissan New Zealand on board as the exclusive vehicle sponsor for the event.
Runners pounding the pavements may have already caught sight of the two Nissan X-Trail vehicles presented to marathon organisers - the first of a number of initiatives set to be announced in coming months involving Nissan’s innovative fleet. Keep an eye out too, for the zero emissions all electric Nissan Leaf that will be our lead car for the marathon. It’s a distinctive blue colour and carries the “Breathe Easy" slogan."
adidas Auckland Marathon Managing Director Stephen Brown says Nissan provides an exciting addition to the event’s sponsor family. “The extensive and impressive range of new Nissan models, along with the company’s experience in activation and leveraging major international marathons such as the prestigious New York Marathon provides our event with unique expertise and some exciting new initiatives.”

Runners can breathe easy knowing that this year’s official race car, the Nissan LEAF, runs completely on electricity, and will easily outdistance our best runners without emitting irritating diesel or petrol fumes.

Feeling a bit daunted by the task ahead? It might help to know that a team of six inspiring New Zealand superwomen are right there with you. Buddy up with adiRun
As well as your newest virtual training buddies, make a few real ones with the adiRun training club in Newmarket. Every Tuesday evening, marathon training becomes a team sport as runners from all over Auckland get together for a bit of camaraderie and some expert guidance. Just turn up at the adidas store at 312 Broadway from 5.30pm, ready to set out at 6pm on a training run that suits you.

adidas Auckland Marathon features at the 2012 Los Angeles Marathon
adidas Auckland Marathon in association with ATEED, Tourism New Zealand and Air New Zealand has exhibited at this year’s Los Angeles marathon expo. The Los Angeles marathon has over 23,000 participants.

"We were pleased to have the opportunity to promote the adidas Auckland Marathon in the USA for the second time and market New Zealand's Premier Road Race to a North American audience. LA and Auckland have a close association in being Sister Cities. Approximately 35,000 visitors went through the venue over the two days. We aim to further develop our presence at LA Marathon over the next few years."

adidas Auckland Marathon course is officially certified to IAAF standard
The adidas Auckland Marathon course is officially certified by the International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF). The adidas Auckland Marathon course and times can be used to qualify for other International Events including Olympic and Commonwealth Games, World Championships and other major International Marathon and Half Marathon events. The Half Marathon and Quarter Marathon courses are also fully certified by the IAASF and AIMS
adidas Auckland Marathon supports the Powerade Challenge
The Powerade Challenge, a new technology enhanced 9km running course, has launched on the Auckland waterfront. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) bracelets communicate with customised Powerade vending machines that upload results to the runner’s profile at powerade.co.nz. As well as providing a leader board, the website lets runners compare their results against benchmark times of the All Blacks! adidas Auckland Marathon secures three more years of sponsorship
adidas has extended its sponsorship deal with the adidas Auckland Marathon for another three years, making it a decade-long commitment.
adidas become the naming sponsor of the Auckland Marathon, New Zealand's premier running event, in 2004. It has now committed to supporting the adidas Auckland Marathon until 2014.
"We're very proud to put our name to the adidas Auckland Marathon," says adidas' New Zealand country manager, David Huggett.
"It's a perfect fit for adidas as running is one of our key areas of focus globally, and we pride ourselves on setting the standard for the particular needs of the sport.
adidas Auckland Marathon managing director Stephen Brown says the Auckland Marathon, which dates back to 1992, has gone from strength to strength during adidas' period of sponsorship.
"adidas' sponsorship has enabled us to expand the marathon and take it to a truly global stage. This year's marathon field will be largest assembled in New Zealand for 17 years. The confidence of knowing that our valuable relationship with adidas will continue for the next three years will help us to plan ahead with certainty and continue to grow."
adidas Auckland Marathon gains AIMS full membership status

The adidas Auckland Marathon has become a full member of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), the global body that fosters and promotes distance running throughout the world. AIMS works with the International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) on all matters relating to international road races to exchange information, knowledge and expertise among members of the association. AIMS is an association of more than 300 race organisations located in over 90 countries.
adidas Auckland Marathon Record Entry Sell Out
Despite an increased field of 10,500 participants this year (an increase from 10,000 in 2010) as well as catering for a minimum number of at least 3000 Marathon participants, there was unprecedented demand for entries in both events since online entries opened on 8 April.
The 2011 adidas Auckland Half Marathon reached capacity in just 2 weeks this year and both the Marathon and Half Marathon events sold out in just 5 weeks and 4 days.

New Prize Innovation for adidas Auckland Marathon
This year's adidas Auckland Marathon will see the introduction of a new innovative award for elite full marathon runners. The Top of the Bridge Prime awards recognise the first male and first female runners in the full marathon to cross the top of the Auckland Harbour Bridge. This is approximately 15km from the event start line at Devonport.
Managing Director, Stephen Brown, said, "We are always looking to be innovative in every area of the event. The Top of the Bridge Primes are the newest example of this and add a new dimension to the elite full marathon events."
Brown added "the top of the Auckland Harbour Bridge is defined as the official timing mats on the bridge for the purposes of the awards and that event officials will also be present at this point to adjudicate."
The two winning elite athletes will each receive a cash prize of $500 each. To be eligible for the prize the runners must complete the full marathon distance.
The event takes place on Sunday 31 October 2010.
Both adidas Auckland Full and Half Marathon events reach capacity
This year's adidas Auckland Marathon full marathon has sold out just a few days after the half marathon field sell out.
Managing Director, Stephen Brown, said, "We are delighted with the level of interest in the marathon distance this year making it easily New Zealand's largest full marathon".
Brown added, "This year's marathon event is also host to the Athletics New Zealand National Marathon Championships and University Sport Marathon Championships. The total half and full marathon field size was increased from 9,000 to 10,000 entrants and yet both events have sold out one month earlier than last year and more than 5 months before race day."
Entries are still available in the quarter marathon, 5km run and walk and KIDSMARATHON events that feature as part of the adidas Auckland Marathon.
The event takes place on Sunday 31 October 2010.
