adidas Auckland Marathon Record Entry Sell Out

18 MAY 2011

Despite an increased field of 10,500 participants this year (an increase from 10,000 in 2010) as well as catering for a minimum number of at least 3000 Marathon participants, there was unprecedented demand for entries in both events since online entries opened on 8 April.

The 2011 adidas Auckland Half Marathon reached capacity in just 2 weeks this year and both the Marathon and Half Marathon events sold out in just 5 weeks and 4 days.

New Prize Innovation for adidas Auckland Marathon

14 OCTOBER 2010

This year's adidas Auckland Marathon will see the introduction of a new innovative award for elite full marathon runners. The Top of the Bridge Prime awards recognise the first male and first female runners in the full marathon to cross the top of the Auckland Harbour Bridge. This is approximately 15km from the event start line at Devonport.

Managing Director, Stephen Brown, said, "We are always looking to be innovative in every area of the event. The Top of the Bridge Primes are the newest example of this and add a new dimension to the elite full marathon events."

Brown added "the top of the Auckland Harbour Bridge is defined as the official timing mats on the bridge for the purposes of the awards and that event officials will also be present at this point to adjudicate."

The two winning elite athletes will each receive a cash prize of $500 each. To be eligible for the prize the runners must complete the full marathon distance.

The event takes place on Sunday 31 October 2010.

Both adidas Auckland Full and Half Marathon events reach capacity

26 MAY 2010

This year's adidas Auckland Marathon full marathon has sold out just a few days after the half marathon field sell out.

Managing Director, Stephen Brown, said, "We are delighted with the level of interest in the marathon distance this year making it easily New Zealand's largest full marathon".

Brown added, "This year's marathon event is also host to the Athletics New Zealand National Marathon Championships and University Sport Marathon Championships. The total half and full marathon field size was increased from 9,000 to 10,000 entrants and yet both events have sold out one month earlier than last year and more than 5 months before race day."

Entries are still available in the quarter marathon, 5km run and walk and KIDSMARATHON events that feature as part of the adidas Auckland Marathon.

The event takes place on Sunday 31 October 2010.
